A port a cath is a small device utilized for access for medical treatments such as chemotherapy or
immunotherapy. This device provides a long-term, safe, and convenient way to administer medications, fluids, or draw blood samples. It’s typically placed in the upper chest, just below the collarbone.
Who needs a “Port”?
Patients may need a port if they are getting immunotherapy, chemotherapy, treatments for immunologic conditions, or need for recurrent blood draws.
How is a “Port” placed?
The port is placed by your surgeon under anesthesia (with you asleep) typically in an operating room or surgical center. There is a small incision made near the clavicle to place the device.
